Our Next Event – iOS Photography, Sketch Noting Lessons and 2015 Bring a Friend Planning

Apple's Environmental Philosophy

Apple’s Environmental Philosophy

Sorry for the delay in posting this update… really have no excuse, just got busy. Our next event will focus on iOS photography, sketch noting lessons (for those of you who saw Brad Overnell-Carter’s video) and last but most important, setting the criteria for our first “Bring a Friend/Future ADE” day which will likely happen for the following meeting.

With the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus just released it would be cool if someone had one to show us… anyone??? I am holding off getting mine until about November after all the issues have been resolved. There are so many apps out there now for iOS photography and videography that we should take a look and do a comprehensive assessment… so it will be a bit of show and tell.

iOS Photo Apps – if you have time to look… here are bunch of iOS photography apps you may want to take a look at.

For sketch noting, I have implemented sketching in all my classes with the goal to have students begin to sketch note by mid-term. Brad’s video explained beautifully how sketch noting is actually far superior to traditional note taking because in order to sketch note you need to first understand what is being presented to you, then you have to conceive of a way to graphically illustrate what you have learned in a summative form. The cognitive processing that goes on in order to produce the sketch note generates far better results in terms of understanding and retention.

Finally we will set criteria for our “Bring a Friend” event. The goal is for you to choose a friend who you feel would be an excellent ADE candidate. We will set criteria that will help you to select a friend that would have the best chance of being selected as an ADE in 2015. We will also discuss how we could support them in future events.
